Google@UH - Solution to Error: "This document contains sensitive content. The following recipients are outside the item’s domain: xxxxx@gmail.com. Are you sure you would like to share it with external users?"

Problem

  • Caution (⚠️) icon appearing next to share buttonUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  • When attempting to share to an external non-@hawaii.edu user, you receive the error: "This document contains sensitive content. The following recipients are outside the item’s domain: xxxxx@xxx.xxx. Are you sure you would like to share it with external users?"
     

Resolution

  1. Review the file and ensure it doesn't contain any sensitive content such as personally identifiable information (PII)
  2. If the file does not contain PII, or you have removed the PII, share the file again and when prompted, click Share anyway
  3. It may take up to 24 hours for your file to become unflagged

  • Google has flagged your file for containing PII such as Social Security Numbers (SSNs) or driver's licenses numbers
  • The share button changes and prompt appears to warn you of this
