Automated SSL Certificate Renewals

The University of Hawaii is partnered with the InCommon Certificate Service to provide unlimited free SSL certificates to UH units for web servers, code signing, and other services. Both single-domain and multi-domain certificates are available.

All certificates are currently issued for a 199-day duration; 1-year certs are no longer available. In 2027, it will decrease to 100 days and in 2029, it will decrease to 47 days.

ACME (Automatic Certificate Management Environment) allows certificates to be auto-enrolled and installed without going through the manual process of requesting and installing a certificate.

On July 17, 2026, InCommon will transition from Sectigo to CertiNext as its platform provider. Existing Sectigo ACME credentials will expire on that date. Customers will need to request and configure new ACME credentials from CertiNext before July 17, 2026 to avoid any disruption to certificate issuance or renewal.
