Overview
This articles is to help provide supported services of Linux/Unix/*nix shell environments that can be used by UH faculty, staff, and students. UH ITS suggests the following supported services:
- Built-in Windows/macOS Features: For those requiring a *nix shell environment on their personal devices, we recommend using Terminal on macOS devices or the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) on Windows devices. These options provide a powerful and integrated *nix experience directly from your workstation.
- GitHub Enterpise: For users who use UHUnix as a *nix environment for coding and compiling, GitHub Enterprise will be available in the Fall 2026 Semester for all UH faculty, staff, and students. - ITS Hosted Solutions: For users with a need for a hosted *nix environment, ITS offers virtual Linux servers for purchase (link). This service can provide a fully supported and managed RHEL environment tailored to your specific requirements.
