UH Wireless - How to Find Your Device's MAC Address

Overview

The Media Access Control (MAC) address is a unique 12-digit hexadecimal number assigned to the network interface (e.g. wireless card) in your network-enabled device. Your device's MAC address can be used to register it to our Wireless Passthrough

Ex. 00:AA:11:BB:22:CC

iOS/iPadOS

  1. Open the Settings app on your home screen
  2. Click on the Wi-Fi tab
  3. Click on the ( i ) icon next to the UH Wi-Fi network (e.g. "UHM")
  4. Update the Private Wi-Fi Address to one of the following options (skip to step 5 if one of these are already set):
    • Fixed: When set to Fixed, your device uses a private address, but the private address doesn’t rotate, regardless of the network's security or length of time since you last joined the network.
    • ​​​Off: When set to Off, your device uses its hardware MAC address.
  5. After choosing your Private Wi-Fi Address option, you should now be able to see your Wi-Fi Address (the MAC address)

  1. Open your Settings app
  2. Scroll down and select About or About Phone
  3. Scroll down and locate your Device Wi-Fi MAC Address
  4. You will also need to disabled the randomized MAC address feature:
    1. Go back to the Settings app
    2. Click on the Wi-Fi tab
    3. Click on the gear/cog icon
    4. Click on Advanced
    5. Click on Privacy
    6. Click on Use device MAC

  1. Click the Start button, then open Settings
  2. Select the Network & Internet section and click on Wi-Fi or search for and select Wi-Fi Settings
  3. Click on Hardware Properties
  4. Scroll down and locate your device's Physical address (MAC)

macOS

  1. Start a Spotlight search by clicking the magnifying glass in the top right and search for System Settings
  2. After opening System Settings, click on the Network tab on the left and then click on the Wi-Fi tab on the right. 
  3. Click on Details... next to the UH Wi-Fi network (e.g. "UHM")
  4. Update the Private Wi-Fi Address to one of the following options (skip to step 5 if one of these are already set):
    • Fixed: When set to Fixed, your device uses a private address, but the private address doesn’t rotate, regardless of the network's security or length of time since you last joined the network.
    • ​​​Off: When set to Off, your device uses its hardware MAC address.
  5. After choosing your Private Wi-Fi Address option, you should now be able to see your Wi-Fi Address (the MAC address)
