Request a Certificate in CertiNext

Overview

SSL certificates are used to secure communications between systems and validate the identity of websites, applications, and services.

This KB article provides instructions for requesting a SSL certificate using the CertiNext portal. The intended audience for this article is departmental SSL administrators, and it is assumed that you already have an active CertiNext account with the appropriate permissions to request certificates for your department's domains.

Before starting, ensure you have the Certificate Signing Request (CSR) generated from the target server or application. The steps below will walk you through submitting a certificate request and downloading the certificate once the request has been processed.

How-to

Portal URL: https://us.certinext.io/dashboard

  1. Sign into the portal.
  2. On the top left of the page, click on New Certificate.
  3. Choose Product and Validity
    1. Group - If applicable, select your department.
    2. CA Source - Select emSign.
    3. Product - Select Incommon OV SSL Certificate.
      1. For multi-domain (SAN) certificates, select InCommon OV SSL Certificate UCC and specify No. of Domains.
    4. Subscription For - 1 Year Subscription.
    5. Click on Next.
  4. Certificate Signing Request (CSR)
    1. Upload CSR - Choose file and click on Open.
      1. Alternatively, you can paste the contents of your CSR.
    2. Click on Next.
  5. Organization Information
    1. Select an organization - Select University of Hawaii ( 9944333 ).
    2. Click on Next.
  6. Organization Representative Information
    1. Contact name - Enter your full name.
    2. Email ID - Enter your email address.
    3. Click on Next.
  7. Certificate Information
    1. Ensure the domain name is correct.
      1. For multi-domain (SAN) certificates, ensure the Additional Domain Names list is correct. 
    2. Click on Next.
  8. Additional Information (Optional)
    1. To add additional email recipients, check Additional email recipients and specify email addresses.
    2. UncheckAuto-renew certificates until coverage.
    3. Click on Next.
  9. Order Summary & Payment
    1. Click on Submit.
  10. You'll be taken to the order details screen where you can download the certificate.
    1. At the top right of the screen, click on the three-vertical-dot icon (kebab menu).
    2. Choose Download Certificate.
    3. In the popup that appears, select the Zip radio button and click on Download.
  11. Additionally, you'll receive an email from donotreply@certinext.io where you'll be given a direct download link.

Notes

  • SSL certificates currently have a maximum validity period of 199 days.
  • Certificate issuance notifications may take several hours to arrive.
  • It is recommend to set a calendar reminder ahead of the certificate's expiration date to avoid outages.
  • You may see Bradley Christ's name in your orders. This is expected as he is the primary contact for the University's account.
